符籙在傳統信仰中被認為具有法力，在一般華人家庭中亦十分常見，常被用來祛災辟邪。若從書法藝術的角度觀看，符籙本身具有極高的藝術價值，而這樣的價值長久以來往往被低估。

《道教符籙選》中的符籙，由正一道教李游坤道長提供。除了日常生活中常見、供大眾使用的符籙之外，其中也包含許多較少為人所知、與動物有關的符籙，尤其是與貓、狗相關的符籙。

在影片的拍攝中，狗的舌頭取代了神明之筆，描畫出這些符籙。彷彿神明附身於狗的身體之中；又或者，這隻狗因吞食了無數經文，而逐漸內化並顯現出某種神性。

Talismanic diagrams (fu) are traditionally believed to possess spiritual efficacy. Commonly found in Chinese households, they are used as ritual means of warding off misfortune and dispelling harmful forces. Yet when viewed from the perspective of calligraphy, these forms possess a remarkable artistic value—one that has long been underestimated.

The talismans presented in Excerpts from the Taoist Protective Talisman were provided by Zhengyi Daoist priest You-Kun Lee. In addition to talismans commonly used in everyday life, the collection also includes many lesser-known examples related to animals, particularly cats and dogs.

In the film, the dog’s tongue replaces the divine brush, tracing and inscribing these talismanic forms. It is as though a deity has entered the body of the dog, or as though the animal—having consumed countless scriptures—has gradually internalized and begun to embody a form of divinity.
